What is the average Australian male’s height?
Australia has a population of over 26 million as of the time of writing. The male population accounts for around 50.2%.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, between 2011 and 2012, the average Australian man was 175.6 cm. The definition of an Australian man is considered as someone 18 years or older.
From the Australian Health Survey, you will see that Australians are getting taller on average. Between 1995 and 2011–12, men’s average height increased by 0.8 cm, while women’s average height increased by 0.4 cm. That means the men’s height growth rate is double the women’s height growth rate.
Based on previous growth rates, it is estimated that an Australian man’s average height will grow to 182 cm by 2022.
In general, younger men are taller than older people. In Australia, the average height for young people aged between 18 and 24 years old is 177.8 cm, while the average height for older people aged over 75 years is 169.7 cm, so the difference is 8.1 cm.
